Efficient Channel Coding Releases High Speed Consumer Satellite Modem for The iPSTAR System

Cleveland, Ohio - October 21, 2002 - Efficient Channel Coding, Inc. (ECC) announces the commercial release of the world’s most integrated, low cost, high-speed Consumer Satellite Modem. ECC’s Consumer Satellite Modem uses a number of innovative technologies to maximize efficiency including advanced forward error correction, adaptive coding, gain and modulation, on-board TCP/IP acceleration and more. “ECC is proud to release the world’s most advanced consumer satellite modem. The tremendous performance coupled with the cost effective design further extend the already significant competitive advantages of the iPSTAR system. The modem is designed to utilize the air interface, jointly developed by ECC and Codespace, currently deployed on Shin Satellite’s iPSTAR system. The iPSTAR system will deliver high-speed internet services via satellite, at speeds of 10 Mb/s and 4 Mb/s respectively to and from the user. The second generation of this system will consist of 92 Ku-spot beams over Asia and a data capacity of more than 35 Gb/s. Asia is the part of the world where the number of Internet users is increasing the most, and satellites will be crucial in the development of this service as ground-based technologies have yet to make much headway.
