Efficient Channel Coding to Develop High Speed Satellite Burst Modem for the Japanese Communications Research Laboratory
and JEPICO Corporation
Cleveland, Ohio – December 8, 2003 - Efficient Channel Coding (ECC) announced today that it will develop an advanced
satellite modem for use in the Wideband InterNetworking engineering test and Demonstration Satellite (WINDS). WINDS is
a research and development project to establish the world's most advanced information and telecommunication network and is
scheduled for launch in 2005. It is part of the "e-Japan Priority Program" which was established by the
Information Technology (IT) Strategy Headquarters of the Japanese government. ECC will be developing the satellite
modem under subcontract to JEPICO Corporation. Dr. Richard Gedney, ECC’s business development managers said “The
WINDS burst modem allows ECC to apply our world-class technology to one of the most advanced satellites under
development. We are proud to be working with CRL and JEPICO to enable this program”. Dr Naoto Kadowoki stated that
“ECC’s unique Forward Error Correction and Burst Modem technology greatly simplifies the implementation of the WINDS
high-speed network.”
